Artefacto Manigua
“Artefacto manigua” (2023) is the result of a two-year-long aesthetic investigation.
An essay and a historical fiction narrative (²Op Cit)1 serve as a trigger for a series of visual art pieces (drawing, engraving, art object). It analyzes the events of the civil wars and the genocide perpetrated in the late first decade of the 20th century in the Dominican Republic. It aims to index visions of a forgotten era (1899-1909) to confront the current political subject with their own memory regarding authoritarian culture. Its traces contain hidden keys to unravel and map out in search of possible exorcisms, even to invoke future landscapes.
